Caritas Nigeria makes National Appeal for Southern Kaduna

Caritas Nigeria makes National Appeal for Southern Kaduna

Following the recent killings in Southern Kaduna which has shocked the whole world, Caritas Nigeria has lent its voice to the numerous humanitarian intervention efforts across the nation.
Below is the content of the letter of appeal from the Executive Secretary of the organization, Rev. Fr. Evaristus Bassey sent to different stakeholders to solicit for help.

As you are well aware, the people of Southern Kaduna, mostly in the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of Kafanchan, have suffered unwarranted attacks and gory casualties.

The wards with the greatest tragedies are Goska and GidanWaya. Some villages, for example, Godo-Godo, Pasa Kwori and Tudun Wada under Gidan-Waya Ward have been virtually obliterated. A camp has been opened in Kafanchan to accommodate some displaced persons, while others were absorbed by some Christian families.

After a rapid needs assessment conducted by the JDPC, needs are in the following areas:
• Food
• Shelter and non-food items
• Agricultural inputs for early recovery and livelihood support
• School fees and learning materials for education
• Drugs and mosquito nets for health support
• Water, Sanitation and Hygiene facilities

Consequently, the President of the CBCN, Archbishop Ignatius A. Kaigama, having sought some advice has suggested that the Department of Church and Society through Caritas Nigeria/JDPC should kindly request that your Excellences raise spontaneous appeals in all your parishes to respond as a Church, in solidarity.

The fruits of appeal should kindly be deposited in:
Bank: United Bank of Africa (UBA )
Account Number: 1016080765
Account Name: Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria

Thank you very much and may God preserve our lives from untimely deaths. Amen.

Your Son in Christ,
Fr. Evaristus Bassey
National Director, Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria
